Jawaahir Dance Company performances are unique, vibrant,
and spectacular with fascinating rhythmes, colorful costumes, and
an infectious sense of joy.
Jawaahir is dedicated to spreading that joy to audiences everywhere.
We have brought the beauty and artistry of Middle Eastern dance to thousands
of people throughout the region, performing in a wide variety of settings,
from formal theaters to school or university settings, community centers,
and neighborhood festivals. From the lively rhythms of rural Egypt to
the glittering courts of the Ottoman empire, from a dramatic North African
dance ritual to an exuberant Arabian party dance, dances in Jawaahir's
repertoire captures the essential spirit of middle Eastern Dance - a
celebration of life!
We present traditional folk dances, set to authentic music, and/or
more contemporary dances whose music and movements are a
fusion of Arabic and Western elements. All dances, music and costumes
are presented in authentic Middle Eastern style. Our gorgeous,
colorful costumes are meticulously researched and crafted. Every
dance is presented in its own unique costume, based on regional styles.
Our musicians, who perform on authentic Arabic instruments, include seasoned
players from Lebanon, Egypt, and Syria, as well as Americans who have
studied the traditional style with world-class teachers. Together, we
strive for the highest level of quality and authenticity in everything
we do.
We are able to offer you a variety of performance options, from
a full, 2-hour concert with the full dance company and a live orchestra,
to a 45-minute mini-concert, to a 20-minute lecture-demonstration with
3 dancers, and everything in between! Whatever the format, performances
by Jawaahir are always colorful, educational, and fun for all ages.
