About the School
The Cassandra School offers year-round classes in Middle Eastern dance
for levels ranging from beginning to professional. Started 1978 by Cassandra
Shore and Eden Torres, who retired from teaching in 1983, the school resided
in several Minneapolis locations until 1987 when it moved to its current
location. The school now serves as the teaching arm of Jawaahir Dance
Company with classes that incorporate all relevant aspects of Middle Eastern
dance, music, and culture. The regular classes serve the seven-county
metro area and are sought by students from across the United States who
have relocated expressly to study with Cassandra and the school. In response
to student demand, Jawaahir opened a St. Paul branch of the Cassandra
School in 1998.
